3 iron is my get out of trouble club. i can accomplish a half swing when punching under a tree, but i put the ball in the middle of my stance for those shots. great tips. i also think about releasing the club a little earlier, it seems the club wants to stay back.

Do you have tips on how to increase clubhead-speed for more distance? I hit very solid shots with my irons, but they lack distance, even with clean contact.

@syllybaby yeh they are project X 5.5 graphite, they feel great and give me a great ball flight.

4golfonline August 28, 2011 at 12:41 pm

@alexkeaney91 yeh I do they gave me a great ball flight and I suffer from tennis elbow and the softer shaft feels better on my elbow.

@alexkeaney91 I was thinking the same thing.

Do you have graphite shafts on your irons?

Reply

Stompy77 August 28, 2011 at 1:36 pm

Hey Mark, the 3 and 4 irons seem easy for me. The swing I have seems natural for the 3 iron as I can hit it very well. I also replaced my 3 and 5 wood with a 1 iron and a 2 iron because I cannot seem to hit the woods properly as they slice horribly and hitting the irons seem natural. Do you have any tips with using the “driving irons”???

mark are u using graphite shafts on the set of 53s that u use when u play or isit just for video demonstrations?

Hey mark? My name is Mike Boatright I don’t always struggle with my 3 or 4 but when I do it hit them low solid and to the right totally playable but not a good shot. When i rope my 3 iron seem to come into right and hit a high bomb 215 yards but most f the time it’s low and straight whats up?

Hi Shawn, this is a great idea. I noticed that i hit the irons over the top too frequently. I think its because practice swings are slightly different from the actuall swing. In the practice swing you brush the grass whereas when you take your shot you make a divot so something is changing slightly. This looks like a great way to get that feel for the actual swing. Great video and i will definately look into buying one. Thanks.

@clemshaw Sorry Shawn I wasn’t looking to buy the grass whip more the golf trundler your clubs are in.
Please let me know what make and model it is, it’s the greatest thing I’ve seen in ages.
Cheers!

@o0Chrome0o If you are in the US, get the one made by True Temper, or in Canada, go to Home Hardware and order the grass whip; details on the home page of my website; Thanks for the comment! Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Excellent video once again!
The question I have is about your golf trundler!
What brand is that thing. With all the trundlers on the market that is by far the best 1 I have seen and I want 1.
Thanks Shawn 🙂

Hi Shawn, someone told me that pro golf teachers such as yourself get discounts from certain golf brands. Is this true?

@DFPFTW HMMM; well, I can tell you that my grip is the very same when standard chipping, pitching and full swing; see my “arms and body timing; shawn clement” video and it will help you understand the shorter than full swing pitch; also see “stop crashing; shawn clement”

@cmterpsnskins Focus on the imaginary stem under the dandelion masquerading as a golf ball; use the sole of the club to cut through that stem in a very fast yet free of any strain kind of way; when you have the ball on a higher tee with the driver, the eyes are on the tee but the attention is on the direction of the cut which will have the blade slinging into the picture of the shot (where you want the ball to start); Shawn

cmterpsnskins August 28, 2011 at 9:48 pm

Great video as usual Shawn. I am still trying to figure out where I should be looking when swinging. My golf grip is now sound, so I know the clubhead is square on the downswing and all I need to do is swing through. Problem is sometimes I know sub consciously I am trying to hit the ball. So with the ball on the tee, I should always focus on cutting through the tee? With the ball on the ground, focus in front of the ball? Does this sound right?

@clemshaw …Bought a grass whip this AM ($10.99 in USD in Michigan)…spent about 90 minutes (on and off in the 88 degree heat) in my side lawn doing the feet together, one foot, and elephant walk. Played nine before dark. (Only thought with the driver was to see the tee ..while focused on the picture… and clip it with the sole plate with zip. Wow. Hit seven drivers…all of them while having my eyes on the tee and not the ball. Just flat bombed six of them effortlessly. Wow.

Hello Shaw, i have a statement maybe you could help. when hitting a full 7 iron my coach is burning into my mind for the left hand to push pull an my right hand to be underneath. Well in the state of chipping (90 yards in) i feel wayyyyyy beter with my right hand on top making it more dominate. Is what im doing right? should i have a different grip an swing for 90 in?
THANKS ALOT!

@clemshaw Thanks Sean! I will definitely be ordering one of those grass whips. It appears to give instant feedback and take care of so many problems in the average golfer’s swing; as you stated. I hope you don’t mind that I use some of your ideas to teach my own students. I’m a golf pro myself and search youtube all the time for any golf related videos I can find. I’m glad I stumbled upon your methods as I find the student can’t really debate biomechanics and physics. Thanks again

@charlespiette Sony Bluetooth; great sound isn’t it? It costs about 1/4 of the price of the high priced mics and is 20 times more reliable; and works up to 100 yards easy! Shawn
