If you’re a golfer or want to become a golfer, or have no interest in the sport but have overheard your friends talking about the golf swing, then you’ve heard them talking about the golf swing tempo.
The golf swing tempo and It’s Meaning
The golf swing in itself is a combination of many parts; the upswing, the downswing, turning the wrist, twisting at the waist, redistributing you weight, and so forth. All of these moves must be well practiced over and over again until they all come together in one smooth, well flowing motion called the golf swing tempo.
You can probably even say that the goal of all your practice and time on the driving range, in the back yard, and in the office, practicing the swing is all for the tempo and once you have mastered the golf swing tempo, then you have moved up a level in the playing field, a level that many golfers who have been playing many years have not managed to move into yet.
Developing Tempo
How does one develop a PGA golf swing tempo? There is no one answer to that question. A good golf swing tempo comes with patience, practice, and time. A one time trip to the driving range isn’t going to do it and a training aid or video isn’t going to do it either. A good tempo will require all the tools put together, it requires:
Proper instruction on the basics of the golf swing
Keeping a good disciplined practice schedule
The use of training aids into your schedule
Proper Instruction
Learning the basics of the golf swing is first, foremost, and the key to developing the golf swing tempo. Through quality instruction of either a teacher (preferably) or a very good golfer friend, you can teach your body the feel of the swing and letting your body get accustomed to the feel is the first step to developing tempo.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Everyone has heard the saying: “practice makes perfect”. Well in this case it could not be truer. In order for you body to get used to the feel and to be able to repeat precisely the exact same movement every time, it needs to make the same movement over and over. The only way your body is going to learn is to practice the same movement over and over.
Training Aids
Sometimes our bodies are resistant to certain movements and that’s okay, it’s only natural. If you have ever played or watched golf, you know that the golf swing is probably the least furthest from a natural body movement.
So sometimes a training aid is needed in order to correct the way our body wants to move by making it move the way we want it to move so we can obtain that ultimate goal of the golf swing tempo.
There are many aids available; you just have to ask around and do some research to find what works best for you.
To Summarize
The development of a golf swing tempo requires not just one thing but an arsenal of tools: proper instruction, practice, swing aids and last but not least the proper attitude. With all of these put together, in no time you will be a par golfer.
